I'm writing from my vacation in Sweden. Good news reach even here! The Electrician keeps on compeeting around the world!

The Electrician, a film directed by Miina Alajärvi and result of cooperation between TAMK School of Art and Media and the School of Media, Music and Performance of the Salford University has got really busy after the premiere in Tampere and Salford this spring.

VIII Open St.Petersburg Student Film Festival "BEGINNING" took place this week in St.Petersburg, Russia. The global contest of the festival invited again this year two films from TAMK School of Art and Media to be shown in the category for Fiction films.

The Electrician won the Audience Award in the Up-and-coming International Film Festival, Hannover, Germany last night.

In April 2008 ten students from TAMK School of Art and Media went to England to make a cooperative short film with the School of Media, Music and Performance of Salford University. It was pilot project for both schools and a leap into the unknown for the film crew. The road was bumpy but now one year has passed and everyone can be proud of the result, the short movie the Electrician.

"The Electrician tells the story of Marvin, an executioner in charge of an electric chair. After becoming unemployed when the government prohibits executions, and with his profession now illegal, Martin struggles to find a new way to use his unusual skill - showing no emotion at people's deaths."

The Electrician won the Gold Panda Special Jury Award at the 10th Sichuan International TV-festival in Chendu, China last weekend. Simultaniously the film became winner of the Vimma09 (Fury09) competition at the Arctic Fury Film Festival in Rovaniemi, Lapland. The Electrician was also winner of the Favourite of the Audience award in Rovaniemi.

Artmedia Blog started in September 2008, so 2009 was its first full calendar year. The blog had 11 868 visits, which is satisfactory for a blog with such a specified small target audience: people interested in art and media studies in Tampere. Our sister blog in Finnish had 41 728 visits. The artmedia blog published 139 posts, our Finnish TTVO blog 257. The artmedia blog had 8045 absolute unique visitors and 19148 page views.

MA in Screenwriting is a joint masters programme arranged by University of Salford (Manchester, UK) and TAMK University of Applied Sciences (Tampere, Finland).

The joint study board of our joint masters programme with Salford University, MA in Screenwriting gathered this week at TAMK School of Art and Media in Tampere. At University of Salford the programme is arranged by the School of Media, Music & Performance.

There is a special screening of new TTVO short films at Tampere Film Festival Thursday March 5 12 am in Hällä. TTVO is the Finnish abbreviation for TAMK School of Art and Media.

Our annual festival - Tampere Art Factory (TAF) - was in May, but much of the student works seen there are still visible online. In this posting we present the films that were shown at TAF which can be understood without knowledge of Finnish language or with subtitles in English.

University of Salford in Manchester is our oldest international partner. The intense and variform cooperation has however mainly involved film and television studies. But now the cooperation will be broader; the relations were extended to include digital design and game design during the visit by TAMK School of Art, Music and Media Dean Ari Koivumäki and me to University of Salford end of February.
