Ikuinen Gallery
Under Construction
Exhibition by Saimaa UAS Fine Art Students
December 13 - January 24 2013
Mon-Fri 12-16
Finlaysoninkuja 3

On December the 12th the exhibition “Under Construction” opens at TAMK’s Ikuinen Galleria. The artists of the exhibition are the art students from Saimia University of Applied Sciences and the exhibition is result from the collaboration of both Imatra and Tampere art departments.

The idea behind the exhibition is to have a look at what’s happening in the art field today in the art departments around Finland. The collaboration between the TAMK and Saimia art students began last summer when the both universities had an art fair together in Stockfors, Pyhtää. The project tries to create collaboration between the art departments while the art education is been ran down. There are already been discussions on the next art attack, this time the students of TAMK will have their exhibition in Imatra.

In the Under Construction-exhibition there will be art pieces from nine art students. There are going to be traditional as well as digital paintings, installations, digital photography, prints and sculptures.

The openings will be at Ikuinen Galleria at Wednesday the 12th on December (12.12.2012) at 4pm. The exhibition will be open until the 24th of January. The gallery is closed due the holidays 22.12.2012-6.1.2013.

SPRING MIGRATION
19.3.-14.4.2013
TAMK library
Kuntokatu 3

A flock of birds is moving east. Ikuinen Gallery has joined the migrating wedge of cranes and takes a common rest at the main campus of TAMK.

Spring Migration is a paper-based installation folded by the Ikuinen Gallery team with some help of art and media students from Finlayson campus. The paper cranes took a flight out from the cosy home nest and landed on new chirping branches. The meaning of the twittering visit is to create visible, easily approachable art outside the limiting gallery walls. With the birds we want to send our greetings from students to students.

Visit our migrating spring birds while they stop at Kuntokatu campus library, during the opening hours.

The Flock behind the installation:
Finlayson students, Anna Pekkala, Anne Järvi, Annette Hanse, Anu Mustonen, Niina Kiiveri

The Spring Migration is one part of Ikuinen Gallery's mission to conquer the World. We want to spread student-made art outside the wall's of Finlayson Campus.

Jenni Kuoppala
The Humminbird breeder
November 13-30 2012
Mon-Fri 12-16
Ikuinen Galleria, Finlaysoninkuja 3

I invite you to check out my painting exhibition at the Ikuinen Gallery. The name of the show describes my effort to make a perfect portrait that represents this unusual profession. Hummingbird breeder, the happiest man in the world, is the opposite of over-activity and ADHD.

I want to understand and absorb his teachings in order to help me in my need of clarity and calmness. I do not know yet if I am able to bring the hummingbird breeder to the Ikuinen Gallery, but at least I promise to present something girly and naive.

Warmly welcome to my exhibition!

Jenni Kuoppala

K12 - A collaborative exhibition
The first year students of Visual arts
April 17 - 26
Mon-Fri 12 am to 4 pm
Finlaysoninkuja 3

The new students of fall 2012 present themselves in a collaborative exhibition K12.
It is the first warning sign of a new generation of critical, brave and independent visual artists.
Art and studying arts give room to explore and question things. Rather than prohibiting and excluding certain topics, in the field of arts there is room for discussion.
Our journey to become artists has just begun. After three years this bunch will showcase their works in their final exhibition of the Bachelor's programme.

The exhibition consists of paintings, sculptures, pictures, video works, drawings and mixed media. In addition to the gallery, the exhibition takes over "Pesurumpu", the lobby in the entrance of the campus, the cafe and the staircase.

Ikuinen gallery and K12 take part in the Pirkanmaa Art orienteering 20.-21.4.2013 by target number 57.

Art students presented in the exhibition are: Joni Ahonen, Heikki Harmainen, Heini Hiltunen, Karoliina Huuskonen, Sofi Häkkinen, Timo Höyssä, Lasse Juuti, Emmi Kallio, Kaisa Kallio, Katri Kempas, Merituuli Laatu, Joanna Lamberg, Sakari Larjo, Ilai Elias Lehto, Ruut Luoto, Jerker Ramberg, Sanna Saarreharju, Ida Sokka, Ville Erkki Tarke, Senni Uusikartano, Sanni Weckman, Tarleena Öhman.

Olet mitä syöt (You are what you eat)
Lasse Juuti
27.3.-12.4.2013
Mon-Fri 12 am to 4 pm
Finlaysoninkuja 3

We need food for living/in order to survive. This exhibition leads us to the garbage bin. Eating habits and experiences come to life on paper plates. The dried scraps and traces of food act as canvases that have been continued with paint and markers. The marks on the plates give the artist a lead from the past, and with the help of a brush the abandoned plate, state of stillness, comes to life.

In the plates that I have collected the marks of dining are juxtaposed to the traces of paint, the used plate and palette become equivalent, the food and its leftovers seek to find a mutual form and material feel. The act of painting reflects the need that is similar to the need for food. From food and pleasure derive themes of fine dining and maximalism, which is portrayed using paint. This art piece has aspects of art history and tradition, where food, portraits, canvases plates and recycling play an integral part.

Mr. Juuti is a painter. Mr. Juuti paints, because he paints. Simple as that.

Liisa Ahola & Veera Salmio: I am special
Installation
March 4 - 22 2013
Mon-Fri 12 am to 4 pm
Finlaysoninkuja 3

The installation ”I am special.” discusses our self-centred lifestyles. In western culture human value is measured by credits, and that’s why so many want to be something special (like we wouldn`t be that already).

”I am special.” is an installation based on light and sound effects, which talks about peoples need to be special in the context of contemporary art.

We are studying fine art in Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK).

Tall tales and true stories (2013)
Sofi Häkkinen

Ikuinen Galleria 5.11-15.11.2013

The drawings and paintings in the series portrait different moments. Quick thoughts, hasty touches, passing feelings. The media supports the idea of a swift glimpse of a moment, captured on paper so the viewer can always return to that one instant that was so important.

Sofi Häkkinen is a second year fine arts student in Tampere University of Applied Sciences. Her main media is drawing and painting. Her work is mostly based on the conflicts and feelings, as well as certain cravings and obsessions between two people. As a starting point Häkkinen uses a mixture of memories, moments, faint touches that meant something big and easily forgotten glances.

Fine Arts students Christmas sale in Mediapolis wed-thu 19.- 20.11 at 10-15

Ikuinen Gallerys traditional Christmas sale is arranged in an untraditional way this year. The most notable change is the new address. The gallery has moved from TAMKs department of Media and Fine Arts in Finlayson to Tohloppi. The gallery has no space of its own anymore, so the sale will be held in pop-up spirit in the TAMK lobby (to the right from the front doors).

Not all traditions have been shelved: the sale products are as magnificent as always: art, cards, handicrafts etc. You are warmly welcome to explore and make purchases for both yourself and Santa Clause.

Ps. Unfortunately we don't take “plastic money” , so please remember to bring cash with you.
