Village of the Future will build up on Tampere Keskustori (central square) and the event takes place September 2nd and 3rd, 2011. The village will give information on climate change and sustainable living in an out-of-the-ordinary way.

The central market square in Tampere has seen many different kinds of events during its lifetime, but on the coming weekend the square will be filled with the spirit of the future. The Village of the Future -event (Tulevaisuuskylä) will deal out information on climate change and sustainable living by offering differing views on the future. The event wishes to engage communities with different backgrounds to build a better future together. The Village of the Future has been designed and built in large part by the students at TAMK Art and Media.

On Thursday night a big audience gathered on Tampere main square Keskustori to follow the first Guerilla Lighting event in Tampere. Fifty tourch carriers in uniform coats, followed by the light designers, organisers and some one thousand citizens marched around the city center to four destinations. The procession was accompanied by the Swaeg Collective.

Tulevaisuuskuvia exhibition brings together various fields of science and art in order to further explore the pressing questions that will affect our common future. The exhibition has been formed through a collaboration of artists from the Pirkanmaa region and of future studies experts.

Story: Essi Santala, student of Lighting Design

3rd and 4th year Lighting Design students began their studies on architectural lighting with teacher Antti Hiltunen. The course familiarizes the students with common architectural lighting equipment, work in general in the architectural lighting field and during the course the students will produce a lighting design on paper for a building or space of their choice. The course is conducted by visiting teachers Antti Hiltunen and Arto Heiskanen from the lighting design company Valoa Design but several other visiting teachers will shine light on their fields of expertise as well.
